Awkwafina has been described as an American actor and musician who began her career with clever raps that tackled gender and ethnic identities from a a boldly comic perspective. Then she branched out to Hollywood. She was born Nora Lum to Chinese and Korean immigrant parents from Forest Hills Queens her first experience with music came through the trumpet. Alongside classical music and jazz, Nora Lum started to study hip-hop during her teens. When she was in high school, she concentrated on journalism and woman's studies. She studied Mandarin briefly in Beijing. After graduating, it wasn't until that she turned her attention on music. Following her viral success via the Internet the track My Vag was a reaction to the Mickey Avalon song My Dick. It eventually made its way onto her debut album Yellow Ranger. It also included viral hits including body-positive Queef & winking home tour NYC Bitche$1. This latter song was directly tied to Awkwafina's NYC, a 2015 travel guide. The singer decided to make acting careers following the completion of her previous two projects, as an author and musician. In addition to early series like Girl Code and Tawk - she was in films Neighbors 2 Storks and Bad Rap. In the year 2018 she scored many breakthrough roles, such as Dude Ocean's 8, or Crazy Rich Asians. The EP debuted in June.
